  Semamori is an old Japanese custom  (from the era when people wore kimonos).  It refers to embroidery and decorative stitching (a mother's love for her child) applied to the back of a baby's first or celebratory garment,  as a wish for the child's healthy growth and protection from evil spirits.  Since ancient times in Japan, the back has been considered a vulnerable  place where spirits reside, and mothers would sew each stitch with hope to  protect their children from evil spirits and illnesses creeping up from behind.  A Blissful Day I went to a friend's hotel to listen to a bluegrass jam. I've been interested in the Old Time genre for a while now, and since it crosses over with Irish music, I've wanted to play it. This time, I planned to jump in and play if there were any crossover songs. However, the quality of the bluegrass jam was so high that I couldn't even bring out my instrument. This time, there were two female travelers participating: double bass and mandolin. My idol, Baron, was brilliantly playing the mandolin. Hmm, it seemed more fun than an Irish session. A thimble is a tool used during "hand movement" (the process of sewing). The thimble is placed on the middle finger of the dominant hand,  pushing the needle, while the index finger of the other hand guides  the needle's position by smoothing the fabric. This is a thimble with a plate for long needles. For short needles, the thimble is a ring that is inserted between the first  and second joints of the middle finger. Hand movement can also be performed with this. The head of the needle (the hole through which the thread passes)  is placed against the plate (the raised part) of the thimble, and the needle is  pushed forward smoothly using the pad of the middle finger. They are made of metal, cloth, leather, etc. This is the Japanese sashiko method.
